Pacific EcoRisk (located between San Francisco and Sacramento, CA) has a full-time career-track position open for an entry level Aquatic Toxicologist. This position will consist of lab work performing water and sediment toxicity and bioaccumulation tests, and some fieldwork collecting water and sediment samples. We provide all necessary training; however, the successful applicant will be knowledgeable regarding the basic principles and techniques used in aquatic lab research and testing, basic statistical analyses, basic water quality characteristics and analytical methods. Nautilus Environmental is currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Supervisor to join our San Diego team of aquatic toxicologists.  Nautilus is a consulting laboratory focused on the analysis, integration, interpretation, validation and application of high quality toxicity data.  The primary responsibilities for this position include day-to-day coordination of bench-level laboratory activities related to aquatic toxicity testing on water, sediment, and other matrices as well as the direct management of laboratory technician staff. 

The applicant should have previous experience working in and managing the operations of an aquatic toxicity laboratory.  At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Aquatic Biology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Toxicology or related field is required.  A strong working knowledge of chemistry and statistics is also desirable.  On the job training will be provided; however, successful applicants are well-versed in various aspects of the industry, including commonly used testing protocols (e.g., EPA, ASTM, etc.), regulatory programs (e.g. NPDES, dredged materials, etc.), and technical aspects (e.g. TIEs, WERs, etc.) of aquatic toxicology.  (Please see announcement for more details)

  • Position: Bioassay Laboratory Technician

    Nautilus Environmental is currently seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our San Diego team of aquatic toxicologists.  Nautilus is a consulting laboratory focused on the analysis, integration, interpretation, validation and application of high quality toxicity data.  The primary responsibilities for this position include performing aquatic toxicity testing on water, sediment, and other matrices, maintaining test organism cultures, general lab maintenance activities, microscopy, data entry, and statistical analysis. 

    A Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Aquatic Biology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Toxicology or related field is required.  Coursework and a strong background in chemistry are desirable.  Previous experience in a laboratory setting and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel are preferred, but not required.  On the job training will be provided; however, successful applicants are knowledgeable with regards to basic information regarding animal care and husbandry, water quality parameters and characteristics, and principles of aquatic research and laboratory testing.  Key personal qualifications for this position include good interpersonal and communication skills, reliability, attention to detail, flexibility in schedule, the ability to follow written and verbal directions, and the ability to work both independently and within a team setting.  A positive attitude is an absolute necessity.  This is a non-exempt benefit-eligible position that requires some overtime, weekend work, and holiday scheduling.  Pay is commensurate with experience.
